A Pocket Full of Science
This week has been a pocket full of science. We have been studying ecosystems and our team jobs. our exiting jobs are, botanist, ecologist, and zoologist. The ecoligest studies the problem in the landform that they chose as a group and finds solutions for the problem. The botanist studies the amazing plants in the landform that they chose as a group. For example, the cone-flower in the prairie. The zoologist studies the extrordinary animals in the landform that he/she chose as a group. This encourages us to save the earth. Everyone thinks science is so fun, you can see the exitement in there faces. All in all, this week has been a full of Scince.


Science
This week in sience we have been traveling to see differnt ecosystems and food chains. First, our class learned about the foods a mouse eats. The berries provide food for the mouse, the mouse privides energy for the hawk. ect. Next, our class learned about a food chain. The krill porvides energy for the fishwich provides energy for the killer whale. All in all, this is what we have been doing in science.

The Crawling Adventure of Science
This week in science we watched videos and went outside to find the ecosystems of the weed field.first, we watched a video with Jeff Corwin, a guy from the Discovery channel. We also made mind maps of living and non-living things that were in his video. Next,we recorded the ecosystems that we found outside. We found many bugs and weird rocks. All in all we found many insteresting things.

Ready Set Mix
This week in science we are trying to figure out what powders are x,y,and z. x= cornstarch Y= Baking soda Z= Alum. We knew
that because we knew the properties.
After that we mixed the powders with water. Some looked like milk and some just looked like water.

X,Y,Z Science
In X,Y,X science we had 3 powders a which were Alum, Cornstarch, and Baking Soda in 3 jars labeled X,Y, and Z. We had to find out which was which. We also had supplies that I will now list 1 tray with wax paper, 1 dropper bottle filled with liquid, (we could choose either red cabbage juice, iodine, or vinegar) 3 data pages: using proporties, 1 tissue for cleaning spoon, medicine cups of powders X,Y, and Z (cornstarch, baking soda, and alum). Doing this lab will help us with our final science powder test.

Fizzy Fizzy Scince
Bubble! Bubble! Fizz! Fuzz! That is the sound of scince. We used different liquids like
vinegar, water, red cabbage juice, and iodine. These liquids make a reaction to powders.
The powders we used are talcum powder,salt, alum, cornstarch, and baking soda. Baking soda reacted to vinegar. It fizzed up. The alum reacted to the red cabbage juice. First, it turned pink then it turned purple. Finally, the cornstarch turned black after having iodine on it for a minute.

Powerfull Powders
Swish! Oops, I poured out to much alum! What's alum you say? Oh, I will get to that later! In science we have been studying white powders. Some of the powders we used are: salt, cornstarch, baking soda, and talcum powder. Those powders are all white. That is why they are all called white powders. Oh yes,! Alum! Alum is the stuff that goes on pickles to make them crunchy for example. Now, goodbye, I have to go to science. See you next week!

Powder Magic
Poof! In science we are like magicians, by learning how to tell diffrent powders apart. This unit is about Properties of
Powder. Our first trick was telling apart salt from cornstarch. Some of us said that the salt felt like tiny rocks from our last unit, Changing Earth. All in all, science is so much fun!

As we go in the enduring test of science. We try and find the high and low points of the river. Then we try and see if the tomb stone is weatherd. We also learned about man-made features and physical features, Also we are doing science projects for extra credit. So far we have had 3 science projects and they were all about volconos. thats why we got goey in science.

Kersplot! down comes the lava from the playdoe replika of a volcano.All you need is: baking soda, a paper funle, a tiny bottle, and dish soap, and last but not least food coloring.The diffrent kinds of volcanoes are the lava volacnos such as the ones in Hawii the other one is ash volacnos such as Mt.St Helens.We also learned about the ring of fire.The ring of fire is volcanoes that are in a circle and that was the exciting day in sience!

Have you ever done stream tables before? It's a blast. We learned how water can make channels and break dams. The channel leads into the dam and the dam broke because the force of the water. We also learned about the big flood of 1993. It was big! 50 people were killed from starvation. There were more then nine states flooded and the Mississippi river was almost flooded. Learn more about science next week.

The Earth's Changes

There's a falling rock of intelligence rolling down a mountain in our room. It was as sharp as a snake's bite when it fell on us. It bit us so hard it embedded the science into us. Our science brains got filled like lines in a notebook. Mrs. McQueen told us about many things. Did you know that ridges are cracks in a mountain? Science may be a lot of work... but it sure brightens out day like a lightbulb lights up a room.

Sleuthy Scientists

In Science, we have been working on weathering. We have also been buzzing about tombstones and how they geet destroyed by rain and hail. We also have been making sand blasters. We used shoeboxes and straws. We poked a hole through the shoebox and poked the tinsy, winsy straw through the hole and blew! With the tombstones we had to be sleuths to figure out which tombstone was which.

There was a science storm all over the classroom. Drops of rain fell on our sugar cube tombstones. The purpose was to see the effects of weathering on rocks. The room was full of science sleuths, investigating tombstones. In the next lesson, there was sand blowing all over! We made sandblasters! We will blow them soon. We can’t wait!
